Historical & Inspiring
I craft instruments from the historical violin family in authentic playing set-up. My work is inspired by the fantastic masters of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods. Studying their work and “rolemodel” instruments in context of music history and playing style is a beloved foundation for me. My motivation lies in exploring functional relationships and systematics and delving deeper into style-defining aesthetics, not in producing reproductions or “1:1” copies.
I draw great inspiration from my expertise and work on restoring antique instruments. To follow the universal approach “Restoration and New Making – New Making and Restoration” I find to be very fruitful here.
My instruments are entirely handmade and custom-made. I use methods that were already in use 500 years ago and have been handed down to us through the generations. I make all the components and fittings myself, with the exception of the strings. Particularly appealing I find the instruments of the high baroque era of the 17th century having this idiosyncratic style of still pronounced “swing and counter-swing”.
